At age 2, it was all about Elmo. About to turn 3, my daughter’s favorite character was Dora the Explorer. So, of course, her third birthday party had a Dora theme.

Dora the Explorer themed goodies are abundant, so it was an easy theme to pull off.

We got all the party supplies – decorations, invitations, paper plates, etc. – at Party City.

We ordered a cake from our favorite local bakery, Royal Bakery, 4726 Telephone Road, Ventura. (805) 658-6030. This bakery will create any kind of themed cake you want. Just bring in the image you want to replicate (such as a paper plate or other item) and they will make it. And, their cakes and other baked goods are delicious.

Finding a costumed Dora character to come to the party took a little more searching. I eventually found a great entertainer at Parties by Stacey. The company is based in Los Angeles/SFV and travels all over (L.A. and Ventura County, maybe beyond) and offers a wide range of party services: characters, arts and crafts, magic, puppets, tea parties and more. For Siena’s party, a sweet clown girl entertained the kids with balloon animals, games and activities, and face painting. Then, she disappeared, and in a little while, out came “Adventure Girl” (aka, a Dora-type character). The kids loved her! http://www.partiesbystacey.com/

Last year Elmo. This year Dora. What will next year’s character be? I can’t wait to find out.
What themes have you had for your kids’ birthdays?
